“The Department of Actuarial Science and Insurance, University of Lagos has played a pioneering role in the development of Actuarial and insurance education in Nigeria. This has become so obvious that most leaders in the Nigerian Insurance and Financial industries, and academics in higher institutions in Nigeria are products of the University of Lagos.

The overall philosophy of the Postgraduate Programmes in the Department is a follows:

1. The need to produce scholars in Actuarial Science. Risk Management and Insurance.
2. Other Universities in Nigeria and the nation’s Financial Institutions requiring the services of high-level manpower in these areas may take advantage of the these programmes for further training of their personnel.

in addition to the above, the postgraduate programmes are designed to advance the application of mathematics of Insurance and Finance, Statistical Methods to a wide range of Risk management fields and also to equip students for analytical and technical Health, Pensions and other Government services.”
