Discover the heartbeat of academic excellence at the School of Postgraduate Studies (SPGS) in the University of Lagos. Our unit is meticulously structured to cater to every facet of your postgraduate journey, ensuring a seamless experience from admission to graduation.

The Dean's Office serves as the administrative center and leadership hub of the School of Postgraduate Studies. The Dean, along with the administrative staff in this office, oversees and manages various aspects of the School's operations, including academic programs, faculty affairs, student services, budgeting, strategic planning, and external partnerships. The Dean's Office plays a key role in promoting academic excellence, research innovation, student success, and overall institutional effectiveness within the School.

The Sub-Dean Office works closely with the Dean and other academic and administrative units to support specific areas of responsibility within the School of Postgraduate Studies. This include overseeing academic programs and curriculum development, managing student services and support programs, coordinating research initiatives and collaborations, facilitating international partnerships and exchanges, promoting interdisciplinary studies, and implementing quality assurance measures. The Sub-Dean Office collaborates with faculty members, students, and stakeholders to enhance the academic experience, promote innovation and excellence, and address the diverse needs and interests of postgraduate students within the School.

The Board of the School of Postgraduate Studies consists of one representative each from every department, interdepartmental Units (e,g. Faculties), Centres and Institutes running postgraduate programmes in the University. Other members of the Board include the Dean (as Chairman), the Sub-Dean and elected Faculty representatives at the Assembly of Postgraduate Teachers. While the primary responsibility for Postgraduate Studies remains with the various departments of the University, the Board of the School is responsible to the Senate of the University for ensuring high quality postgraduate programmes throughout the University. The Board also provides information to students and staff, and reviews performances to maintain highest-possible quality standards in postgraduate programmes.

The Board Office plays a vital role in the governance and decision-making processes of the School of Postgraduate Studies. This office is responsible for coordinating and organizing meetings of the School's governing board, preparing meeting agendas, recording minutes of discussions and decisions made during meetings, and communicating important decisions and policies to relevant stakeholders within the School. The Board Office ensures that the School's governance structures are effective, transparent, and aligned with the strategic goals and objectives of the university.

The Director/Administrative Secretary Office provides essential administrative support to the Director of the School of Postgraduate Studies. This office is responsible for managing day-to-day operations, handling correspondence, scheduling meetings, coordinating activities, managing budgets and finances, supervising staff members, and ensuring that the Director's directives and priorities are implemented efficiently and effectively. The Administrative Secretary also serves as a liaison between the Director and various internal and external stakeholders, representing the School's interests and initiatives as needed.

The General Administration department in the School of Postgraduate Studies provides comprehensive administrative support and services to various units, faculty members, students, and stakeholders within the School. This includes managing human resources, overseeing facilities and infrastructure, handling procurement and inventory, coordinating events and activities, maintaining records and documentation, implementing policies and procedures, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and institutional guidelines. The General Administration team plays a crucial role in promoting operational efficiency, organizational effectiveness, and a conducive working environment within the School.

The Admission Office in the School of Postgraduate Studies at the University of Lagos is responsible for managing the entire admission process for prospective postgraduate students. This includes handling applications, evaluating credentials, conducting interviews (if necessary), and facilitating the selection of qualified candidates for various postgraduate programs offered by the university. The Admission Office ensures that all admission procedures are conducted fairly, transparently, and in accordance with the university's guidelines and standards. They also provide support and guidance to applicants throughout the application process, assisting them with any inquiries or issues they may encounter.

The Examination and Results Unit oversees the planning, administration, and evaluation of examinations for postgraduate students in the School of Postgraduate Studies. This unit is responsible for scheduling examination sessions, coordinating exam logistics, arranging invigilation, collecting and securely managing exam papers, ensuring academic integrity and compliance with exam regulations, processing exam results, and issuing official transcripts and certificates to students upon successful completion of their programs. The Examination and Results Unit also provides support and guidance to students regarding exam-related inquiries, appeals, and academic progress monitoring.

The Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Office in the School of Postgraduate Studies is responsible for managing and supporting technology-related services, systems, and infrastructure to enhance teaching, learning, research, and administrative operations. This includes maintaining network infrastructure, providing technical support to users, managing software applications and databases, developing and implementing IT policies and security measures, promoting digital literacy and innovation, and leveraging technology to improve communication, collaboration, and information management within the School. The ICT Office also facilitates access to online resources, e-learning platforms, research tools, and digital libraries for students, faculty, and staff members.

The Records/Certificate Office in the School of Postgraduate Studies is responsible for managing and maintaining accurate records of academic achievements, student progress, certifications, and credentials for postgraduate students. This includes maintaining student databases, processing registration and enrollment records, managing academic transcripts, issuing official certificates and diplomas, verifying credentials for alumni and employers, responding to requests for academic records, and ensuring compliance with data protection and privacy regulations. The Records/Certificate Office plays a critical role in supporting student success, credential verification, accreditation processes, and alumni relations within the School.

The Reception serves as the frontline point of contact for visitors, guests, students, faculty, and stakeholders seeking information, assistance, or services from the School of Postgraduate Studies. The Reception staff greet and welcome visitors, handle inquiries, provide directions and guidance, schedule appointments, manage incoming calls and emails, maintain visitor logs, and ensure a professional and hospitable environment for all visitors. The Reception also coordinates with other units and departments within the School to facilitate efficient communication, coordination of activities, and resolution of inquiries or requests from visitors and stakeholders.
